Provocations…setting up the children for success

One of our favorite things to do in our classrooms includes providing opportunities for the children to explore new material in a neutral area (not in a center). We set up provocations at the tables for the children to work with a teacher during free exploration time. All the children are encouraged to join the table daily for a few minutes to go over the mini lessons but can choose not too. Most do join us. Once the children learn the material we place it in the centers for further exploration. The children can extend their learning alone or with peers.
